EU Project ESTOOLS
The EU-funded project ESTOOLS was the largest consortium of researchers studying human embryonic stem cells in Europe. It was also the first EU-funded project to contain a specific program on human inducible pluripotent stem cells.
In 2010, ESTOOLS hired me as a publicist and a writer. The work entailed a significant challenge: The consortium teamed up 150 scientists in 10 countries and produced more than 130 scientific publications. Moreover, research on human embryonic stem cells is a sensitive issue where social, religious and political issues must be taken into account when speaking to a lay audience.
Some things that I did for ESTOOLS:
- Summarizing ESTOOLS work into a concept that worked for a lay audience.
- Developing key communication products for the final symposium.
- Writing web summaries for a lay audience.
- Assisting in media enquiries and public outreach activities.
- Writing press releases and disseminating them to journalists.
- Authoring the final publishable report for the EU commission
- Writing a conference report for a peer-reviewed journal.
